Honey Chili Crisp Grilled Chicken Wings – What You Need
- Unsalted butter: We used butter instead of olive oil because it adds a rich and creamy texture to the sauce.
- Chili crisp: A chili oil condiment with crispy chili flakes and spices. We used the Momofuku brand, but you can use any chili crisp or chili sauce of your choice.
- Honey: Honey adds a delightful sweet flavor and also balances out the spicy chili crisp.
- Soy sauce: Gives the sauce a nice savory umami flavor.
- Apple cider vinegar: A dash of acidity really adds a depth of flavor to the honey-chili wings.
- Chicken wings: Any type of chicken wings will work for this recipe. Just make sure they are fully cooked before adding the sauce.
Substitutions & Variations
These flavor-packed, grilled chicken wings can be easily customized to fit your taste preferences. For instance, add some garlic powder or your favorite dry rub to the wings before grilling for some extra flavor.
You can also finish off these wings with a squeeze of fresh lime juice to really amplify the tangy and spicy flavors.
Don’t have a charcoal or gas grill? You can still enjoy these wings by using a grill pan or baking them in the oven with an oven rack. Just make sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly.
Tips for the BEST Honey Chili Crispy Grilled Chicken Wings
If you are using a charcoal grill, make sure the charcoal is mostly gray ash and has a bright orange glow before you place the wings on the grilling grate.
When taking the temperature of the wings, insert the thermometer into the thickest part, being sure not to touch any bones.
To make this sauce less spicy, add 1-2 more tablespoons of honey. Taste test as you go!
How to Store
If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. To reheat, simply pop them in the oven or air fryer for a few minutes until crispy and heated through.
What to Serve with Honey Chili Crisp Grilled Chicken Wings
These delicious wings would taste fantastic with a side salad. Our favorites are this Green Goddess Quinoa Salad, Grilled Caesar Salad with Grilled Croutons, or Dill Pickle Chicken Salad. The flavor combo is out of this world!
You could also serve them with some classic BBQ sides like our Pineapple Coleslaw, Skillet Cornbread, or Red Potato Salad for a complete and satisfying meal.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, try making some homemade Blue Cheese Dressing or Ranch Dressing. The creamy and tangy dressings will pair perfectly with the spicy and sweet wings.

Honey Chili Crisp Grilled Chicken Wings Recipe
Ingredients
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons chili crisp we used Momofuku brand
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Wings
- 2 lbs. chicken wings
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat grill to 425℉.
- Season the chicken wings by placing them in a bowl with salt and pepper. Toss to coat and set aside.
- Next, prepare the sauce. Place all of the ingredients into a small saucepan and place over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Spray your grill grates with nonstick cooking spray and then grill chicken wings over direct heat for around 15-20 minutes or until the chicken wings reach an internal temp of 165℉. Flip the wings every 3-5 minutes. The goal is to get beautiful grill marks on each wing. We placed the drummettes in the middle of the grill with the flat parts of the wing around them.
- When the chicken wings are fully cooked remove them from the grill and toss in the honey chili crisp sauce.
- Serve immediately.
